We recognise that following a brain injury, there are a lot of new things to adjust to and deal with - for both the injured person and their family. Some things, like changes in physical ability and role will be more obvious, whilst others, such as changes in cognitive ability or personality may be more subtle and harder to understand. Brain injury survivors and their families have reported that having an “expert companion” (some one with expertise who accompanies you on the journey), such as a Case Manager, is invaluable in negotiating the challenges of life after brain injury.
The role of your Case Manager will vary according to what you require, but the relationship between you and your Case Manager is always the most important factor. We will aim to ensure that you have a Case Manager that you trust to support you and ensure that any needs arising from the brain injury are addressed.
If you are pursuing a litigation claim as a result of an accident, your solicitor may commission a Case Manager to support you and coordinate all the services you need, however it’s important to understand that we do not work for your solicitor - we work for you. This may include providing you information about brain injury, coordinating rehabilitation, support workers or medical reviews; or assistance with rehousing or other practical matters. Once your claim is settled and the solicitor is no longer involved, you can still retain the services of a Case Manager who will continue to coordinate everything you need and support you with your progress over the long term.
If you have any questions about the service or want to find out more about how we may be able to assist, please contact us by phone or email cmreferrals@head-first.org
